Broken stitches and problems after oral surgery?
I had two plates and sixteen screws removed from my lower jaw 9 days ago. The surgeons needed to go inside and make cuts to remove them. The stitches, however, worked themselves out, or dissolved to quickly, leaving me with two "pockets" inside my mouth. My oral surgeon is aware of this, and I am making efforts to keep them as clean as possible (my next follow up is in a few days).
My question is whether or not I should be concerned that the "pockets" will not close permanently, and will require a lifetime of cleaning. I currently use a syringe of normal saline twice a day a I rinse daily with Chlorhexidine Gluconate. And suggestions?
