Lately I have encountered several dentists who did not seem to understand the problem and said, "nothing really wrong". In fact, it turned out to be periodontitis with bone loss just having started. The standard procedure is that these dentists take dental x-ray and if they see nothing wrong in x-ray they say its no problem and all is fine. When I insisted my gums hurt me a lot, one dentist put me on medication of amoxillin. finally after changing dentist 4 times, the 5th one said I have periodontitis and pockets. He said some pockets are as deep as 6 mm. Performed root planing and scaling. That brought me tremendous relief. He also asked me to use biotene mouthwash because he believed that dry mouth due to anti-depressant and heart medications caused periodontitis. But I had to change dentist 5 times before really getting problem diagnosed. So in short, how can you tell if the dentist is going to be knowledgeable and serious before making a visit? They all have DDS, so I can’t tell
